Dark brooding fruit on the nose but much more earthy/ forest floor on the palate. Does not have the pronounced savory flavors of great Syrah but worth trying again in a few years

Deep purple ruby colored, medium bodied, bright vibrant black berry and black cherry fruits, notes of smoky, spices and hints of black pepper, nice balance of acidity, turning to smooth silky tannins on a long finish. An outstanding QPR, high quality to price ratio wine. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2021/07/french-wine-dinner-at-chez-joel-chicago.html https://twitter.com/unwindwine

Deep ruby in colour. Medium+ nose intensity with developing notes of charred wood, black fruits, tobacco, black pepper, toast, black cherry, black plum. Dry, medium+ acidity, body, flavour intensity and finish. Medium alcohol.

Now some you non-wineaux’s out there may think that my spell-checker has stopped working, but let me assure you that it was just my creative word usage of homophones. That one you can look up, I had to; it means two words that are pronounced in the same way but have different spellings and different meanings. Maybe it’s back to my old “word of the day” references?
What’s most important is to know the wine featured in this post:
Maison les Alexandrins Crozes-Hermitage 2017
From old vines in Crozes-Hermitage, the largest appellation in the Northern Rhone Region, comes this 100% Syrah wine that is aged in barrels for 10 months and stainless steel for another 6 months. Sometimes considered the lesser sibling of Côte-Rôtie or Hermitage, after tasting this wine I was thoroughly impressed.
From the reviews that I scoured, I noticed a couple talked about a smoky quality to the wine, in my tasting I came across no such nuance, not that it would be unpleasant. I did get, and only once for a short time, a whiff of smokiness or maybe what is sometimes called barnyard, but it dissipated quickly. Other than that, the nose presented a plum intonation along with dark red/black fruit, very nice. The wine, dark in color, offered nice dark rich fruit, smooth texture, and a finish that included a spice note at a minimum. All told a solid and very enjoyable wine and at right around $20 a good value as well.
Finding the wine interesting, you need only head straight for your local wine shop, or as I like to say, “as the Crozes fly.”
Cheers

Possibly the worst Crozet-Hermitage I’ve had. Unidimensional with little flavor. Dark fruit, plum, strong tannin, decent acid - none of the spice, earth, olive, garrigue. This wine is a big zero for me. Structure with nothing to fill it in.
