  • Drank on nights 1 and 3 of a three-night span, this wine was a blind pull from the cabinet and at first unrecognized save for the Cornas designation. I was thoroughly impressed by the gravitas this wine brought in its full-bodied, whole-cluster palate attacking presence. I thought first of the erstwhile Halcon Elevacion syrahs, but this had a measure of refinement (perhaps just from its age) that those lacked, even while their strength/impact was well matched. I settled on the Pax Sonoma-Hillsides as the best comparison in memory. Both wines brought deep, impactful fruit (cherry, plumb), savory and saline elements (olive tapenade), and an herbal component adding complexity. Tannins were not fully resolved, but also in no way obstructive. Lengthy finish. Held up perfectly through the days open. And, for me, with an admittedly limited sense of the full distinctions of all NoRhone AOCs, I still felt/believed this was of a place. In conclusion, while the wine nerd in me loves more idiosyncrasies in the keynote wines I taste, this one was a classic overachiever, is sure to please many and will continue to prevail for some years.

  • Full- bodied, traditional styling. 6 hour slow-ox prior to consuming. Dark and brooding stewed fruit and olive tapenade, though gaining brightness with air. Good concentration and length.

Perhaps needs 4-5 years to evolve, but approachable today. Fine Syrah, if stylistically hard to place in Cornas - almost more Walla Walla or Australia, but without the oak and extraction. 92-93

  • OMG, what a surprise this was. Only 6 years old but already drinking like a top notch Syrah. Complex aromas of plum and super spices. On the palate a deep long lingering explosion of spices, plum, leather and tobacco, elegant (super fine tannins) but powerful. Similar in style to an eden valley Shiraz from Henschke. In fact couldn’t help thinking of hills of grace when guzzling this one. Exceptional wine for the price.

  • Decanted 4 hrs. Its not that often that I use the ‘EE’ descriptor on a red in this price range, that is ‘Exquisitely Elegant’. And that is exactly what we have here, a mid-weight Syrah that represents the 16 vintage so well. Seamless in its texture that just glides through the mouth, with a not yet defined fruit profile that is rather playful with its sweet charms and such. I didn’t find this especially tannic, just balanced, and very nice finish of white pepper on the closing end. Excellent Syrah with excellent potential.
