Paper filtered and decanted yielding a brilliant ruby liquor with aromas of strawberries and raspberries. Deep aromas of barnyard mingled with the enticing fruitiness. This was a very big wine with rich blue fruit flavors and a long funky almost plummy finish. The second day it was even better than the first with explosive palate and more fruit accompanied by less funk.

quite pleasant VR, but not living up to my expectations. it is quite light and balanced for a 2003 (appreciated), but it lacks the depth (and complexity) you see with good producers. this shows signs of maturity, but my bottle had enough tannins to sit and wait for another 5 years in my cellar.

Pure nose, plenty of fruit. On the palate, quite mature. No need to wait at all. Clearly a well made Burgundy, but not massively complex. Enjoyable, but should be drunk soonish.

La Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin (Vancouver) (Diva at The Met): Medium ruby red core with just a hint of bricking at the rim. Brighter nose of ripe red fruits and hints of nectarine (yes I know weird but it was quite obvious to me). There is a noticeable difference between this wine and the other two Engel VRs. Low acidity, ripe and very fruit forward. This is could pass for a Californian pinot. It’s a tasty wine that has the delicious factor, but lacks complexity and typicity and it isn’t my favourite style of pinot. Not quite sure how this will age but I wouldn’t wait too long. Good.

Much better than expected, the vintage considered. Fine nose with spice, cherries and a hint of leather/tobacco. The palate is solid, the warm vinatge is present here. The aftertaste is long with fine acidity and a dry but good finish. This is a good wine, but not a typical pinot.
