Weekend of Villages Burgundies; 2/6/2022-2/7/2022: Colour - whatever we call the colour after purple - crimson I think? No bricking but not painfully youthful either. On the nose - not super expressive, a bit of woody tones and maybe a hint of berries. On the palate - sour cherry, good acidity but it falls off quite quickly. Perfectly decent villages wine but not up there with the Jeanniard for pleasure.

Deep garnet. Dark fruit and game/meaty, bay leaf aromas. Dark fruit on entry, turning to red currant. Still quite a tannic grip on the short-medium finish. Plenty fresh and bright, and the extra year in bottle has allowed a bit more fleshing out, some additional enjoyment.

Deep ish purple. Not super expressive nose. Sour cherry and marzipan. Not very giving on the palate. Enjoyed with pasta bake and doctor who.

Clear dark red. A: Iron, some spice, dark fruit. F: crunchy red fruit, not much depth or intrigue here. Pleasant wine.

Why is it that the more I spend on red burgs, the more disappointed I am with it. This is an inexpensive wine that pleases, at least for the money.
