Pop and pour. Dark purple color. Wonderful nose of black cherry, blueberriea, some beef blood and herbal note suggesting cool climate and some whole cluster. Good dark fruit with bright acidity. Touch of menthol with the dark fruit notes. Fresh and lively finish.

Aerated with a Vinturi and decanted for 30 minutes. Nose of blackberry, black olive, black plum, licorice and spice. Ripe black fruit, olive tapenade, chocolate and spice on the palate. Long finish. Full bodied. Served with roast pork tenderloin.

Such a Mike Smith wine - large, almost huge in scale and full throttle on the flavor-meter. It has freshness and savoriness in spades though, so it never tips over into top-heavy CA syrah syndrome. Blackberry liquor and spice on the nose, with a bit of heat. On the palate it's luscious but wild, stemmy to the max, black cherry, macerated strawberries, candied violets, olives and grapefruit zest. Medium bodied, but rich velvety texture. Friendly tannins and ready to drink now, but will likely continue to improve for a few years. It's a world apart from Pax's Wilde Farme lighter, more playful version of Halcon, but the candied red fruit-stem combo links them together.

Very big Syrah that needs a 2+ hour decant to show its stuff. After a lot of air, black pepper, olive, bacon....very Northern Rhone and tasty.
