  • Strawberry, iodine, and camphor on the nose. On the palate, candied cherry, blackberry, and notes of iodine and clove, with light tannins and moderate acidity on the long finish. This was about the same on the second day, so I'm not sure how it will evolve. At this stage I preferred this when it was younger, although there is room for improvement as it ages.

  • This was better than the last bottle, but not as good as the first.

  • Raspberry and camphor on the nose. On the palate, black cherry, currant, blackberry, and notes of iodine, clove, and anise, with moderate tannins and good acidity on the medium to long finish. This is not as good as a bottle drunk a year ago. I have a few more, so hopefully they will be better.

  • Blackberry and eucalyptus on the nose. On the palate, blackberry, raspberry, and currant, and notes of anise, iodine, black and white pepper, something liqueurish, and savory spices - cloves, truffle; with strong smooth tannins and strong acidity on the medium to long finish. This is outstanding, but it's approaching the $100 price point, so it's only an average to good value. At the same time, it's still quite young, so if it improves as it matures it could become spectacular. I thought this might be shut down, but it isn't, which means it may not need decanting any time soon. Drink now if you like your Chateauneuf young; otherwise hold until 2023 or later.

  • Popped and poured, medium-plus purple/ruby, rosé meniscus. Complex nose of kirsch, raspberry, black currant, eucalyptus, root vegetables, black pepper, spicy incense & florals. Medium-plus body, quenching acidity. Rich, sumptuous fruits on the palate show dense yet are cut by an impression of stoney, somewhat saline minerals. Some volatiles on the hot, lengthy close.
With air, this fantastic CdP is ever-evolving & quite stunning - very young though, probably best to age 5+ years before opening.
