  • Winebar [4 Whites, 8 Reds, & 4 *shared* bottles] from 06/07/19] (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): From hand picked vines ave 30 yrs of age grown in iron-based clay soils with an ave yield of 40 hl/ha; "Traditional fermentation in open vats, aged 10-12 mos ageing in Louis Latour cooperage, med toasted, FR oak barrels (20% new)"

N: RIPE blk cherry with notes of wild straws; Intensity lurking?

P: Med, poss LM, body; Very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt fairly quickly met by an astringent pucker which, without even remotely losing touch with the init frt, fairly seamlessly transitions into a very LONG finish with a tangy/SWTNESS to the very, VERY fine tannins. NEEDS through '22, poss '23, then at least approaching its 15th? Very, VERY nicely done! My EXC/EXC+, poss even more... eventually? 91 pts WS & 89 Suckling. [Though I saw no other source, I *suspect* this vendor's $39.95 is HIGHLY competitive!]

  • First impression: spice (cloves). Then violet, red berry, raspberry, red plum, a bit of toast. The nose is well defined, a bit pungent, announcing good tension. Precise.
On the mouth you feel the strength of a young Vosne-Romane: acidity is pronounced, body and tannins are ok (medium to medium +), but falling behind. Refreshing, though still unbalanced.

I would wait at least a couple of years for this one.
