This was drunk earlier tonight with friends at a restaurant. We drank it along side an '88 L'Evangile. Being adjoining properties which also adjoin Petrus, both wines were similar, but we liked this one better. It has the olive, plum and violet components typical of Pomerol. With 35 years of age this wine was in its prime. There were no rough edges and the body was full. The consistency is velvety and the complexity was ethereal. It's been a while since I've drunk a Bordeaux this good. I'm giving this wine 2 points higher over the L'Evangile and most of that come with the better finish and complexity of the La Conseillante.

Quite youthful for 35. Opened and decanted for one hour. Medium plus acid still will keep this wine alive another 20+ years. Very soft and subtle flowers and scorched earth are framed by secondary fruit of dried cranberry earl grey tea and sage. There is cedar and pencil shavings that linger in the palate for 30+ seconds. The 88s and 96s are often overlooked and that’s the case with this wine for sure. I’m left with sweet raspberry coulis with a70% dark cacao. Just s lovely wine to drink today.

Violets, anis and a bit of truffle. Beautiful and respectful. As a Pomeroo should be.

Gorgeous fruit. Beginning to dry. Shortish finish, fading quickly.
