Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. A little caramel; almost like a maderised quality over black fruits; plums, blackcurrant, brambles, dusty sweet spice, toast, cedar, slight leather. And that slight maderised note is reflected on the palate, plenty of drying tannins and fruit tea flavours backed by sweet spice and caramel complete the picture. Bah.

Steak decisions (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin and left for 30 minutes before tasting. Medium plus intensity aromas of baked black fruits - plums, blackcurrant, plenty of oak spice, cream, slightly dried out quality to the fruit and a bit of meaty, beef stock underpin. Savoury, meaty and a little warm on the palate initially, fruit again shows as slightly baked, tannins more of a burr than anything else. Hmm to meh...

On the one hand I very much appreciated having an aged Bordeaux. It does make a difference and there's certainly an extra elegance that adds to the wine from it. On the other hand, this was a fairly basic wine and struggled to really stand out at all. Totally drinkable, but somehow didn't seem to add to the food or have the food add to it. Right in drinking window if I had to guess. This isn't getting better I don't think.

Medium+ nose intensity with notes of forest, toast, charr wood, cedar, red and black fruits. Medium acidity and medium tannin. Medium finish.
