2015 Natacha Chave Crozes-Hermitage Aléofane was developing, complex and elegant. The Crozes-Hermitage Syrah was deep ruby in colour with traces of fine sediments. On the nose, there were aromas of blueberries, dark cherries, dried violet and iron, followed by tertiary notes of mushroom and forest floor. The mouthfeel was dry, medium-bodied and savoury, with medium-high level of balanced acidity and medium level of silky integrating tannin. The rather long finish was accompanied with flavours of dark fruits, black olives, Ceylon tea, earth and stony minerality. The alcohol level was at 13.5%. In the context of the warmth of the 2015 vintage, its refinement and elegance was impressive, when more robust and full-bodied examples were typically made in the region.
It was entering its maturity early around five years after harvest. It surprised me how much tertiary notes it gained, compared to my first experience with this wine two years ago. The wine was certified organic, aged in used neutral oak barrels for close to one year, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Probably the best showing - third and last bottle. David found gooseberries just like I did first bottle. It is nice if not the most complex of wines. The white flowers were a little intrusive in previous bottles but here they are more subdued which fits the wine better. I’ll take a Graillot before this and think it’s all down to structure.

Deep ruby with fine sediments Complex nose of rasberries, red cherries, violets, iron and white pepper; more floral notes emerged with 30 minutes in glass Medium bodied, silk-like tannin, relatively high acidity and long mineral-driven finish, impeccable freshness and mineral sensation It is the most elegant 2015 Crozes-Hermitage I have ever had. I would guess it minimal new oak treatment. It showcases the elegance, the freshness and the purity of fruits.
