Pushed up cork. Some sticky leakage, capsule stuck.
Golden amber color. Nose dense floral honey, some fruitcake/apricot, hint of petrol at first, some waxy notes. Palate juicy, dried apricot, good acidity, opens up a lot with time. Deep. Some botrytis notes, tastes like a light/juicy Sauternes. Still vibrant, could see it going for years yet.

Wines with Salil et al.; 12/1/2017-12/3/2017 (Chicago, IL): #12-95, 8.5% abv. Wow, this is an absolutely brilliant wine from the Merkelbach brothers. The nose is insanely rich, showing green herbs, tons of fruit, a bit of slate, and some real spice character. The palate is extraordinarily sweet for a Merkelbach wine, but it is held in check by the 1994 acidity. Still, this is Mosel riesling in its most classical form: shapely, elegant, and fresh. Years, if not decades of life left.

Disappointing (though others seemed to like more than I did.) Surprisingly deep in colour and mature, and not showing the cut or acidity I'd expect from a '94.
