This was easily the best showing of the trio of Young Hagen pinots I have had: 2013, '14 and now '15, all of which were drunk a few years younger. This bottle was quite aromatically expressive, nice balance, and no notable heat. It was a bit lighter in weight than the Rivers Marie pinot, and perhaps showing more pinot character, though not quite as intense in flavor.

Popped and poured at cellar temp. Brambly dark cherry liqueur with a hint of piney underbrush on the nose. Nice spicy dark cherry fruit on the palate. Rich, luscious texture and on the riper side, but enough balancing acidity to keep it from going over the top on sweetness. Very nice and I think just entering its drinking window with plenty of years left.

I tasted this wine 6 months ago but didn't write up a tasting note. I knew I like it. Cool Pinot. There's a smokey luxardo cherry flavor, if you like old fashions then you know what I'm referring too. Dark fruit/Black cherry/blackberry. Foundation of medium+ minerality. Very good.

July 2018 Rivers-Marie Visit (At Mending Wall winery): Generous with a broad texture. Dark fruit of blackberry with crunchy, vibrant acidity. Oak seasons it with a little 5-spice. I liked this best of the three Young Hagen pinots in the flight we did.
