NobleRottersSydney - 2010 & prior (Fix, St James, Sydney): {cork, 14%} [Andrew] Intense, developing nose of iodine and subsumed mint. The palate is lighter than expected, with dark chocolate flavours and a sweet twist to the finish. Medium weight, low chalky tannins, medium acidity. Fully mature, perhaps a touch simple, with a medium length finish. This was a fairly short-lived label for Dalwhinnie; it was made just half a dozen times from 2003 to 2013. I guess they couldn’t work out why they were doing it after a while.

On opening, notes very similar to last time, three years ago - but with a touch more depth and complexity. Wonderful! 95! Second half of the bottle, 24 hours later, its age is showing quite noticeably - decaying underbrush. Down to 91. Still, a remarkably enjoyable wine.

Inky purple - totally opaque. On the nose, blueberry jam. On the palate it's rich, ripe, sweet, smooth; notes of cherry and vanilla coming through. Of its kind - sweet, low-acid Shiraz - it's an excellent example. 14%, cork.

Lovely intensity, firm structural tannins with dark acidity and ripe black fruit. Black plums, moderate tar, long finish, a few eucalyptus notes hidden in the depths Still a long way to go.

Plum and blackberries on the palate. Silky tannins. A great drop.
