  • This was a wonderful start to the reds of the evening. Opened and let it air for maybe 20 minutes before drinking. Wine starts quite well on the palette but fades a bit towards the end. It's a nice leather and herbal and green mixture now. The fruit has mostly faded, but I think that lends it a certain elegance. Was quite enjoyable with a mixed set of appetizers and some good company.

  • Solaia ! (Milano c/o Pandolfini): First vintage from young vines. Released 3 years later because not convincing.
Brick red, but vivid and crystalline.
Intense and complex at nose: Fruity: red fruit with alcohol, dried plums. Mature spices: leather, fur, black pepper, juta, humus, more evident at the beginning; and then tertiary hints: enamel. Dried flowers.
Important entry in mouth, but more long than wide, compressed on mineral-acidity notes over a weak structure and a medium tannin. Vegetal notes (jujube)

  • There was a bit of mixed reviews on this wine probably due to the fact that there were some green/herbal characteristics. It was paired against an '00 Tiganello which was really just drinking @ peak level. This was probably on the backend of it's life and the fruit had faded a bit more, but I still very much enjoyed it.

  • Nose was minty, fruity, slightly medicinal, with dried herbs, smoke, pencil lead notes. Later on nose was a little savory, almost soy sauce-like. Very smooth on the palate. Perhaps not as spectacular as the bottle I tasted at the Solaia vertical last year, but this was still very lovely.
