Haven't had a Tassie pinot in a while but this is pretty solid. Lighter weight in style but decent intensity, mild pong and spice and lively acid driving a longish finish. A touch of pepper too, perhaps suggesting less than perfect ripeness but not convinced it's an issue here. In some ways this emphasises structure more than fruit and I think this is a good thing.

Wines drunk in Hobart; 6/27/2012-7/4/2012 (Hobart, Tasmania, Australia): Drunk off the list at Smolt restaurant in Hobart with B, L and J. A decent quaffer showing correct and simple pinot fruit. James Halliday's 94 points are way out of line - and a classic example of points inflation. This is a good wine, but hardly outstanding and certainly nowhere near the quality of the best Tasmania pinot noirs.

Taste of Tasmania Tasting 2011 (Oak Barrel, Elizabeth Street, Sydney): Red berries over perfume, slight sweet spice (cinnamon). Medium plus acid, dominates green and unripe fruit and spice, slight finish with slight tannic grip
