I have enjoyed various Hewitts in the last year from a range of vintages 2007-2015, but this one just seemed a bit past prime (which surprised me since it was from a magnum so I thought it would hold on longer). If I were scoring I would say mid to high 80’s.

Fully mature. Slight bricking at the edges and still dark purple fading to red. Sandalwood and leather nose, along with signature Rutherford dust. Dried currants on palate, with slight beefiness. All good from a 15 year old Hewitt. A thoughtful wine. Enjoy.

Moderate sediment, cork was easily removed, some bricking. Rich & deep with a quite precise dark currant flavor with some cherry & a hint of smoke notes. There is not a "cascade" of flavors but the true delicious cassis and rounded mouthfeel carriy the day admirally.

(Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon) Very dark red violet color; berry, cedar, blackberry nose; blackberry, berry, black plum palate; medium-plus finish
(Hewitt Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon) #4; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-dark; NOSE-the Oak Monster makes an appearance (I'm a little concerned); TASTE-this wine is GINORMOUS; very big; very heavy Oak flavors (vanilla, cedar box); a very popular style (if you’re a fan of Caymus, Silver Oak & Cakebread, you will like this); I feel like I'm eating a piece of wood; "there's no problem w/ a little wood in your mouth"; BUT -- I am astounded this wine is able to be somewhat polished & balance w/ this much exaggerated oak; very vanilla & cedar box driven; enormous weight; can't ignore the gorgeous raspberries; this wine will develop over the next 10-15 years; pull out a Fred Flintstone knock your car over steak for this wine; not my cup of tea, but for those who like this style, they will love this; BUT I will likely buy a few of these and put them away; WS-94; GV-89
