  • Brick red with orange edge.
Aromas of blackberry jam, blackcurrant preserve, blood orange, pine wood, cinnamon and hawthorn.
Mellowed lively tannins. Cherry acids and cranberry bitterness.
    Medium body.
Palate of cherry jam, candied orange, juniper wood, caramel, forest floor and serrano ham.
A fully mature, lively and utterly complex wine with fading ripe fruit, well structured with elegant acidity and a beautiful and elegant spicy finish. Drink within 5 years.
Tasted alongside Guigal, La Mouline 1994 and the present wine is more mature, slender and elegant but not as powerful and grand as the matched wine.

  • Liked this a lot - very classic Northern Rhone flavours with bright red fruit, black and green olives, a light leathery funk to the nose, and the briny/saline/olives coming through strongly on the back end. Very easy to drink with medium weight on the palate, gentle tannin, and much of the structure here coming from the acidity which keeps it light and refreshing.

  • Indianapolis V; 10/4/2019-10/5/2019 (Indianapolis, IN): Served double blind. The nose definitely shows a little bit of brine and olive, but also a nice bit of earth and meatiness. The acidity on the palate is fairly high, and based on that, I guessed 1993 Gevrey. I suppose it's pretty obvious the syrah notes once this was revealed. Surprisingly high acidity and a really nice lightness here; quite different from the modernist beasts that these wines are today. With air the nose did pick up a little bit of coffee as well.

  • Dark ruby colour - rim has barely started to turn brick. Nose is mature and exquisite! Fully mature wine at its best, gave me a thrill! Worth the 20years waiting indeed. Deep and penetrating multi-layered aromas constantly changing in the glass. Fruit is fresh cherry, has a lean quality to it, it's not opulent. Sweet spices, ash, autumn leaves, violet, tea leaves, some medicinal notes like iodine in the background and a little bit of mushroom. Nose is in perfect condition and very complex. Palate is also exquisite, tannins are resolved, finish is long and body is quite full but fresh fruit and acidity balance it well. This was a really fine wine which in youth would have only shown a fraction of its quality. Perfect now to drink but can keep for a few more years.

  • This wine is fully mature now, but without any sign of overevolvement. Its color is bright, medium garnet with very few brick hues at the rim. On the nose it displays lovely red cherry, smoke, cedar, cassis and darker fruits like blackberries with hints of leather, sweet spice and tar. Remarkable freshness given the age. On the palate it is mid-bodied with silky tannins, bright fruit and high acidity. Perfectly round and balanced. The aftertaste is very long. Excellent.
