  • Fantastic juice. This has really eased up on the young fruit factor, I followed glasses over 30-90 min and air time continues to improve the mouthfeel, but now the tannins are integrated and the fruit really pops with air. So good now, it's one of those you will argue drinking it in the sweet spot now or sitting on it for another 5-8 years, easily.

  • Very impressive and still somewhat youthful high end WA state syrah from an outstanding producer. Our 1st Principia and very glad we have a vertical. Expensive enough to be a reasonable but not great QPR. Decanted for almost an hour and steadily continued to improve in glasses so this could easily have handled a 2 hour decant. Dark purple, medium to full bodied, silky soft tannins with acid still present, fruit very well integrated, good mouth feel and a great lingering aftertaste. Nose initially muted but then opened up with a lovely dark almost floral bouquet of dark cherry, prunes, oak and pepper. Complex flavor profile of dark fruit and earth up front with more iron, blood and game on the late palate. Love this wine and highly recommend it. Probably would drink up in the next 2-3 years.

  • This wine really surprised me. Drinking window on CT was closed last year, but knowing Billo, this should go another 4-5 easy. Not the case with this bottle...it seemed really flat and past prime to me. Blackberry fruit, but really flat tasting. Not a lot of structure and really nothing interesting on the savory side of Syrah here. Super disappointing, considering what it was like in the tasting room, and what I paid for it. Maybe I hung on to it too long...I expected a 93-95 pointer, and it didn't get there for any in our dinner party. Most rated it mid-to-high 80s, including me. Drink now if you have any, I don't think it will improve with additional age.

  • Dense nose of dark fruits, white pepper, capsicum. Palate starts with some sweet fruit, but quickly becomes a bit bitter, which follows through to a medium finish. PnP so may open up in a bit. With time, an hour or two, this really came together. Much more complexity, and the fruit is a bit sweeter, replacing the previous bitterness. This has all the hallmarks of an excellent WA syrah form the rocks. The sweet fruit with some meaty undertones, and a bit of barnyard in the background. There is a slight bitter tone still, but very slight. This will definitely improve with some more age.

  • Not as good as last time. The fruit was more muted but similar profile with smoke and pencil lead. This bottle seemed to lose some of the acidity and balance.

(Rasa Vineyards Principia Syrah Walla Walla Valley) Beautiful spice and earth aromas on a nose accented by pepper. Lithe and beautifully balanced. Intensely flavored with focused fruit that dances along the palate. An effortless, persistent finish that glides and glides. Will have a long, long life in front of it. Give three to five years. 100% Syrah from five different vineyards (Les Collines, Lewis, Portteus, Double River, and Seven Hills). Aged twenty-three months in French oak (30% new). 14.9% alcohol. 70 cases produced.
