  • A blend of Malbed (85%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). Fermented with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 24 months in new barriques.

Very dense and viscous appearance with opaque black cherry color. Very rich and ripe nose, but surprisingly nuanced and subtle that is not about power, but more about layered complexity: aromas of juicy plummy fruits, ripe dark berries, some chokeberries, a little perfumed floral notes, hints of sweet oak spice and vanilla and a hint of sweet volatile lift. Very massive and concentrated in the mouth with dense, chewy texture and rich flavors of sweet plummy fruit, blueberries and some vague, cooked dark fruits with underlying notes of sweet Cognac-ish oak. It is surprising that the acidity shows at all underneath all that extracted fruit. Tannins are quite ample, but very ripe and mellow. The finish is as sweet and colossal as the midpalate with ripe, succulent flavors of ripe plummy fruit, dried figs, some inky notes, spicy wood character, a little bitter oak and hints of vanilla.

Super-concentrated, over-extracted fruit bomb. Shows good complexity - especially aroma-wise - but still the wine lacks freshness and balance. The tannins give the wine some notion of structure, but otherwise this feels too oaky, too heavy and too ripe. The only thing was surprising was that this wine tasted surprisingly youthful considering it was already 7 years old at the time of tasting. Really hard to say if the wine will improve with further cellaring or whether it will just fade away. Probably will good for some years, but I wouldn't hold my breath concerning its evolution. Tastes like every other "icon wine" from South America - if they have such unique terroir there, why won't the producers show it? At 50€ this isn't Chacayes; this is Chaca-no.
