Chambolle Southside 1er (Zoom / Chicago): A flamboyant nose with crazy amounts of exotic spice and potpourri. Full bodied with ripe, fleshy fruit that has an appropriate amount of balancing freshness. A powerful and fun wine, though not classically Chambolle.

Chambolle Musigny "Southside" 1er Cru Tasting (Chicagoland IL): In Charmes flight. Fleshy red cherry with very good density and brightness. Surprisingly accessible with wonderful balance. A wine that has rarely thrilled me from most vintages. but Laurent mastered the 2009 vintage across-the-board.

During a tasting. Medium crimson. Expressive nose of sour cherry with spices, sweet wood, and also rhum pot. This is vey ripe and very much in the morello cherry spectrum. Dense on the palate with good acidity. Many people liked it, too ripe for my palate for a higher score.

You know you are in for a special night when this is the first red wine that is being poured...
Ripe and slightly sweet red and darker red berries with some sweet spices, with some more air also some sweet strawberries, earth, some meaty notes too, balsamic notes of licorice root and underwood. It's medium-full bodied, dense and has a nice structure with medium-high acidity and medium+ tannin that is silky and ripe. Great length. A very impressive but still young Les Charmes. Very impressive.

11 th Burgundy tasting - Reds part II (@ Rotterdam, Netherlands): …and we’re back to the wines that were doubly decanted at 08.30hrs. This one is medium intense, somewhat translucent ruby at the core. The nose starts us off at medium intensity and offers up refined notes of candied red fruits, sweet soy sauce and a hint of game. I’ve tasted examples of this vineyard from a handful of domaines, but the nose wasn’t very typical at this showing. Not quite medium-plus bodied on the attack, some positively silky, high-quality medium tannins and medium-plus acidity are somehow buffered completely by at most medium intense strawberry and cherry flavours, which receive added complexity on the mid-palate from a liquorice-like mineral edge. The finish continues in the same vein for 25-30 seconds. While this is by no means a bad wine and the matière seems first rate, I would have expected more from this famous domaine. So, 89 points for this showing and I expect that to rise to the low nineties in five years from now. .......... TN Mike de Lange.
