Really nice and elegant wine for the vintage. Served blind. Very light in the glass. Crystal clear. Pale. Lots of red fruits on the nose and elegant on the initial palate. Gained more weight with time and on the finish the warmth of the year starts to come through. Overall though, the quality of the producer shines.

Not certain why so many mediocre reports on this wine. Because of the reports and recommendations to drink now we opened for a special dinner at our favorite restaurant in Cascais, Portugal...Fortaleza do Guincho. This was a special evening in that we challenged the chef to create an 8 course meal for us off the menu. We can can tell you that this young chef is a tour de force and possibly the most creative chef we have had the pleasure to experience and we have had opportunities to experience some of the best in the world today.
To the wine, quintessential Burgundy nose with smoke, iron, depth of terroir and in what seemingly was an off year a stunning wine. What I come to expect from Rousseau. Satiny smooth and sophisticated palate and mouth feel showing ripe red cherries, dark chocolate, tobacco. Resolved tannins yet life remains with a delicate texture on the finish. Sorry, the experience was greater than my notes. Very happy to know I have one more in the cellar. Drinking well now but can hold for 2-5 years depending on how well it had been stored.

La Fête de La Paulée in Chicago (Formento's - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Ripe black cherry with sweet spice and roasted meat. Stays ripe start-to-finish with good concentration but moderate finesse. Upside from here given its concentration?

La Fête de La Paulée: Typical 2003 that is ripe and rich, though not to an unpleasant extreme. Big, ripe, rich black cherry, smoke and spice nose. The palate is very ripe and one-noted. Tasty but simple.

Wonderful to try this is not a great year. It shows that the producer shines through.
