Impromptu White Burgundy Tasting; 2/28/2009-3/1/2009 (Lake Elmo): Opens up seemingly rich, but somehow closes down 5 minutes later with a thinner than expected palate. Will revisit this one later. Disappointing after the other Twisted Oaks I've had. Update: better the second day, but a medicinal note on the palate that's not to my taste.

Clear, dark ruby in the glass. Stunning nose - extremely open & fragrant, with aromas of blackberry, black cherry, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, maple syrup, pepper and vanilla...I could go on and on. Nice weight on the palate, with medium acidity and velvety smooth tannins. Abundant flavors of blackberry, black cherry, smoke, sweet pepper spice and chocolate. This wine is drinking really well now, but will definitely hold up for a few more years.

A solid red wine. Plenty of tannin so it would have kept for several more years. Almost the taste of a hearty Italian red.
