NobleRottersSydney - Vintage Night 96-00 (Alio's, Surry Hills): [14%, cork] {Greg} Solid garnet. What a grand cabernet nose; rich, luscious and upholstered black fruits with just enough austerity to the aromas to be true to the variety. The palate is medium-full bodied, intensely flavoured, with medium-weight dusty tannins and enough lumpy fruitiness to suggest that it still needs more time to coagulate properly. As ever with McLaren Vale, it’s a wine more visceral than cerebral, but none-the-worse for that; there’s richness of flavour right to the back palate, with a dignified medium length finish. No rush to drink this; another 5 years will only help I reckon.

Very dark opaque purple. Herbal nose with some dark fruits. Astringent dry tannins on the palate, with a slight herbal/menthol type note and a hint of porty/raisiny flavor. Really did not come off well, and we did not even finish the first glasses poured. Very disappointing as I remember this wine being very good back when I first bought it.

NobleRottersSydney - Wirra Wirra with Greg Trott (Darling Mills, Glebe): Inky deep crimson. Strong raspberry fruit, again with spice underneath. Powerful tannins for what is really only a medium-bodied wine. Primary fruit qualities are very much to the fore – could almost be described as simple at this stage, although the relationship with the older wines is evident.

(Wirra Wirra Cabernet Sauvignon The Angelus) Blackberry liqueur, cherry nose; big, concentrated, blackberry, cherry palate with a herbaceous note, a little hot; medium finish

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds at 10 20 30 years (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {cork, 14%} [Gordon] Another victim of cork bark. This was overtly cardboard-like and mouldy; a textbook example of TCA for only the cork-lovers to enjoy.
