  • This is really hitting its stride now, probably fully evolved, good grip, nice balance of fruit and tannin. Not remarkably complex, but for the price, extremely good. Needs drinking with food.

  • This was a very pleasant, approachable young Barolo that leaned towards a more modern style. While not cheap when purchased from the restaurant wine list at ME@OUE, it is actually great value at its retail price. The nose was quite classic Piedmont, if just a touch on the ripe side, with roses, tar and dried earth and meat, alongside aromas of stewed cherries. Pleasant. The palate was rather sweet, quite modern, with supple, juicy tannins and bright acidity making for a really drinkable young Barolo. A bit obvious in its ripe red fruitedness at first, it opned-up over a couple of hours in the decanter to show fragrant flavours of haw flakes, red cherries and dates punctuated with earth and spice notes. While not tremendously exciting, this was a nicely accomplished wine, and a nice pairing with Cote de Beouf. Decent even young, but it should be better in say 5-6 years.

  • This wine is very young right now (2012).
The nose is a bit closed, with strawberries, minerals, liqourice leather and cherries.
Taste of red fruit and liqourice.
The tannins are heavy and need some serious cellaring to integrate, but the potential is there.

  • White Truffle Tasting with Piemontese Wine Pairings at Spiaggia in Chicago: Paired with fifth course.

TAJARIN CON FONDUTA / Traditional Piedmontese hand cut pasta with fontina cheese

Wine was unremarkable, but pleasant with the cheesy truffled pasta. Light nose with sweet cherry, palate simply provided a counterpoint to the pasta. Would like to retry this on its own, rather than having it have to keep up with the tongue-coating dish. Not a huge fan of the pairing.
