Dark garnet, showing little age. Nice nose, dark, oak, spice. A big wine on the palate, very dark, very extracted, lots of oak and tannin still present. Much more structured than I was expecting, this would be good with food now but was a bit severe to be drunk on its own. Hopefully they have moved towards a more elegant, less extracted approach with more recent vintages.
UWS; A mixed set of wines (@ JB): Dark berries like blackberries, cherries, chocolate, good acidity and bitterness as well as a firm amount of round tannin. Although a treat already it will probably improve with 5+ years of ageing. 92 – 93+

This is an impressive wine - huge and ripe fruit, with serious definition, very structured, with massive tannic grip. I feel it would be difficult to place in Bordeaux (except, perhaps for the nature of the tannins), as it displays more tan a passing nod to new-world wines. It is approachable, but for my palate is clearly too young. I believe the wine is monolithic at the moment, and I hope the some age will lend a sense of transparency in time. So for now, not quite outstanding (because of its lead than layered nature), but with significant upside potential, if the wine opens and develops. My sense is that even if the wine does come to a sense of grace, it will always have a thick tannic grip. 88+?

No detailed notes, but this was much improved over my last bottle a few years ago. Decanted a half hour, then back into the bottle for a couple hours. Nice pairing with a middle-eastern inspired rack of lamb. Dark fruit, some woodiness, moderate complexity.

Not doing much for me at present, even after 3 hour decant. Big and tannic. Need to hold remaining bottles several more years.
