  • Popped and slow ox'd for about 90 minutes. Pale garnet color with bricking around the rim. Nose of slightly baked strawberry, some floral notes, a bit of red licorice and baking spice notes. Similar flavors on the palate with a strawberry pie profile. Really excellent concentration yet still drinks light. Medium acidity, not much in the tannin department. Medium bodied with a long finish. Drank alongside the 2010 of the same wine and preferred the 2010 just a touch more as it seemed to have a bit more acidity and freshness.

  • What a surprise in a blind tasting of Italian wines. So Burgundian in a way and yet so reminiscent of old Beaucastel at the same time. Quite mature, quite delicious.

  • Light+ mahogany brown,
An expressive nose of hung game, earth, balsamic, soy and a hint of vinegar (seemingly in a more positive way!) runs through into the palate.
There is a sense of a Serralunga Barolo on the attack where puckering, almost hard tannins are given added backbone by the spine of throbbing acidity. It almost feels super linear and also bony, but as the wine unfurls, there is a concentration to the fruit (old vines) showing black olive, tinned prune, more red fruit, mineral and shoe polish. The mid-palate is almost unnervingly light but with fantastic depth, with red fruit and sous-Bois and a little bit more juiciness giving the nod to Burgundy Pinot. Great length on the finish and overall a fascinating wine that amplifies the iron fist/velvet glove cliche. A real treat!
