Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow";Bordeaux 2009 vs 2010 (By JS): In the bouquet dark berries, sweet spices, cedar, chocolate and a hint of celery. On the palate the same impressions, ripe dark berries, beautiful acidity and soft tannin, some pepper and a good length. Beautiful and mouth filling wine.

Admittedly rushed through my first glass, but the second revealed the following: deep purple to purple-black in the glass showcasing the concentration of fruit, limited nose in the first passing but as it opened up so did the cassis, weighted ripe blue and black fruit, the same experience is present upon tasting, it’s not beyond prime by any stretch given the incredible long finish. I would suggest trying some now and bring some food along for the ride as this taster did not with regret. Classic, timeless offering.

Clearly Pomerol, and clearly from a structured vintage; the nose is greeted by chocolate covered cherries. These are present at the entry to the mouth, along with assertive tannins, but something seems to be missing.
As time passed, the wine opened up in the glass, and more characters appeared. I got leesy and cheesy notes (Parmesan), and Iron. The tannins and finish lengthened.
It took me 45 minutes to drink the first glass, which is probably longer than it has ever taken me to drink a glass of wine. We poured our second glasses, and the wine started to blossom.
Plum notes appeared, along with toasted French Oak, and the wine became fuller and rounder. It now assumed a classic Pomerol stance, really satisfying, with a longer finish. I must say, though, perhaps in contrast to previous reviews, that I think this wine has just entered its drinking window, and will grow for many years yet, in time releasing its tertiary characteristics. If I had more bottles of this (sadly, I do not), I'd be in no hurry to drink them.

Top, very good wine! Need a bit of time to be outstanding (I think 2-3 years)
