This started quite closed on night 1, but opened up over the course of hours and especially on night 2. Dark fruit, iron, black tea, light tannin. I don’t think this will ever be great, but it’s an authentic example of Nuits and scratches the Burg itch extremely well. No danger of going downhill soon, I’ll try to wait 5 years for my next bottle.

WSET Level 2 Class; 9/13/2018-11/4/2018 (The Texas Wine School): Outstanding quality Pinot Noir!!! It's clear, pale garnet in color and on the nose, it's clean with a medium intensity. It has aromas and flavors of red cherry, strawberry, cooked plum, prunes, tobacco, leather, baking spices, mushrooms, and earth. On the palate, it's dry with high acidity, low tannins, medium body, and an extremely long finish.
This is the best Pinot Noir that I have had up to this point in my life!! Incredible balance and length, extremely complex and intense with no faults!! The flavors and aromas keep coming out as you enjoy the wine without any single one dominating. Absolutely wonderful in every way!!

I suppose the signature of Montille is the real purity of fruit, and that's true here. But where is Nuits Saint Georges? Cherries, strawberries and undertones of smoke and flinty minerality; the wood treatment is so unobtrusive. More concentrated on the palate with a zip of acidity. This is good, but it could be New World.

Lovely incense, black crushed berry, coffee, subtle ferrous and wet earth funk on the nose. Very precise but long aromatics that seem to linger. Delicate yet structured, quite approachable now and open with balance, freshness and depth. Bright acid, not at all overripe or rich, plenty of room for development as the flavors and aromas are primary and vibrant. Flavors follow the nose but take on a piney and bramble character with orange peel, crushed raspberry notes and red tea character. Drink or hold.
