Served alongside 1997 Clos des Ursules, both popped-and-poured, then enjoyed over several hours. This started out very firm and mature, without quite the freshness and concentration I know and adore in most Jadot 1997s. Still, it seemed better than another bottle from earlier this year. Then air and time-in-glass were kind to this wine. Mature black cherry, mushroom with roasted meat were better pronounced from the one-hour mark forward. Still tannic, but well balanced. Nearing the end of its peak drinking window.

2 magnums -one a bit fresher than other. Black cherry, earth, just a hint of cow pasture. Nice softer Burg, one seems to have future, other fully mature. B+ and B

Tired black fruit that was probably charming at its peak, but now just pleasant and clearly long in the tooth. Most Jadot 1997s have maintained better freshness.

resolved tannin, black cherry fruit, a light hint of barnyard. Nice midbodied Burg, and despite being mag fastest wine emptied. B+
