  • Classic aged red Bandol at its best.
Some browning but you get that early with Mourvedre.
Not decanted but probably should have been.
Very intense and complex aromatics with leather, animal notes, dried fruit, iron and earth; clearly on the rustic side but that is what you should expect in a true traditional Bandol.
The tannins have softened somewhat but the wine would surely have lived on for another decade. Impressive length and enough acidity to give this wine balance and liveliness. Alcohol not noticeable.
    Great wine.

  • When I opened it, it looked and smelled dead. But this needs lots of time. After a few hours there was sun dried dark fruits, blood, and a wisp of smoke. Have something hearty but simple with this. It becomes less brooding as time goes on. Something we can all wish for ourselves.

  • Perfect with leftover cassoulet. This is rustic in a good way and has a nice combination of fruit and earth. Wouldn't hesitate to drink now but I also don't get the sense that this is going downhill.

  • Improves with air. Less barnyard after an hour. Good rustic food wine.

  • A wonderful restaurant wine for a fine meal or a gutsy accompaniment to roasted game or fowl. The 2000 vintage drinks perfectly now, with the ever present earthy, almost funky! farm scents, the gamey dark plum/ leather and wet wood, and that aging Mourvedre taste found so attractively in southern Rhone wines. A short decant will help to resolve residual tannins, and the wine will hold its own for most of a leisurely meal.
