  • 3 hour decant. 14%. Só Syrah.
I still remember that night a few years ago when, by accident, I ordered the 2008 of this in a restaurant (now sadly closed) - ordering it wasn't the accident, I mistook the waitress saying the price of 50 for 15 - similar words in English, of course, but in Portuguese, which is what we were speaking, they are very very different - to this day I don't know how I got it so wrong.
But 2 things changed forever that night - I realised that wine could go well beyond being "OK", or "quite nice" and be something amazing - and I became a fan of Syrah.
So, when I spotted this in a wine shop in Faro stuffed full of older, hard to find wine, I made no attempt to resist the purchase, and as many other bottles as I could fit in my backpack.
But what of this bottle? Lovely flavours, but somewhat rough, at pop time this smoothed off beautifully in the decanter - deep evil purple - blackcurrants in the nose - long skinny legs - delicious in the mouth - blackcurrants, cherries, almost some hint of sweetness, maybe a plum or two - lovely balance and a huge finish gently tailing off - lovely lovely wine. I have significant quantities of the more recent opuses - hopefully I can hold on to at least some of them to this age.
