PnP such a classic 01. What I mean by that is that the fruit is still there! It's absolutely on the back 40 of its life but by no means gone. Tannins have ameliorated and there actually was an acid kick. While not in perfect balance like most great 01s it's a tad out of balance in a way that just makes you pay attention more. If 02 is the Alta Sweet video you liked, this is the Sam Harris podcast that makes you think. This wine really does exemplify 01. Did it hit the tippy toppy of heights for fruit/tannin/acid balance, no. Was it a truly enjoyable wine that still offers immense pleasure and made my wife actually smile, yes!

Last bottle of a case, most of which we consumed in 2010-2012. This is finally approaching peak at 15 years old. Opened and decanted 30-min ahead of pork loin and mixed vegetables, and it was accessible almost from the start. Dark, sappy purple-violet color. Nose brings dark cherries, sweet tobacco, dried leather, and wild herbs. The palate is full, square, juicy, and tangy, bringing fresh blackberries, blackcurrant, plums, creme de cassis, and raspberry pie into the smooth, refined finish. Acidic frame still strong with mature tannins. Drink now before 2020.

This bottle didn't have as much character left as the first. It drank Ok as an aged Cab but nothing special.
