  • Upon opening - closed, dark [relative to the vineyard], almost tight, certainly brooding - not giving up anything in the way of aromatics.

But with about 30 to 45 minutes of air - boy oh boy - this wine really kicks it up a notch.

With wild boar bolognese & potato gnocchi - I don't know if you could ask for much more than this.

Just be patient with this bad boy, as he needs the better part of an hour to relax, come out of his shell, and shift it into gear, so as to begin strutting his stuff.

Rating: 96+, where "+" carries the assumption that he might improve over the course of the next 10 or 15 years, but I would not feel at all guilty about opening one NOW.

  • Good balance of red fruit and earth on both nose and palate. Good flavors but fairly short and simple. Tannins nicely integrated, but surprisingly not showing much acidity. I wouldn't be holding these any longer.
