  • See my last note from this time last year. Tasted on its own and 30 mins out of fridge...better than last i think. No green pepper this time. It is a 15% Zin, and it comes off that way...tasty none the less. Will cellar well i think. Have the 2010 vintage on the way. Solid producer of Zin I think.

  • Decanted for one hour. Huge nose showing intense fruity and floral aromas.Blackberries in the fore. Medium bodied palate, right away disappointing after the nose. It is rather fruity and floral, likewise the nose, but low in acidity with very gentle tannins. There is not enough acidic/tannic backbone to give it a decent structure.Somehow lacking in power and focus as well leaving a juicy and slightly flabby impression. Mediocre.

  • This is new off the truck today - young and will get better in 1-2 yrs no doubt.

The nose is nice and full of dark fruit and plum qualities. Palate is medium to bodied with nice hit of acid, but light on tannins. You can feel some heat, but restrained behind the full on fruit action. Nice. Dark berry fruit, some bramble type notes, perhaps a little rose pettle in there. A little light green pepper on finish.

    For 20$ CAN - can't go wrong.

  • Here is a little snippet from the Opimian web site for this offering - I have enjoyed prior vintage and look forward to more this year from producer...i cracked a bottle tonight.

"Zinfandel, for which Paso Robles is famous, has become Castoro’s flagship grape. Despite its 15% alcohol, this wine is restrained in style with red cherries on the nose leading to a rich, succulent palate, concentration and weight without being overblown. This Zinfandel is from the vineyards at Templeton Gap where nights are cool and provide some relief after the scorching hot days. 8% of Petite Sirah from Shell Creek was added and the wine aged in French and American oak for twelve months"
