  • The previous taster was on the right track. 3 years later this monster Pinot is drinking to perfection with a nice streak of acidity that keeps the plentiful fruit flavors in line and a great pairing to a rich meatloaf. Last bottle will seek out more.

  • Enjoyed this a few weeks ago with salmon teriyaki. On the nose I has notes of fresh fruit, hint of young oak, sweet red fruit, and touch of allspice. The fruit is super ripe and this is a monster of a Pinot with a long excellent finish. I think it could benefit from 3 to 5 more years in the cellar.

  • Just perfect with layers of light coco and Dark cherry. dark in color with a powerful nose, could smell this across the table. Overall, glad we waited to drink this one.

  • If there is a maker of 'grand cru' Pinot Noir outside of the Cote d'Or, it must be Paul Hobbs. As much as I resent the ridiculous price increases he has taken the last few vintages, I still admit that this is THE Pinot to be drinking (regardless of vintage) from California. The '03 is, like always, very dense and ripe, bursting with black cherry and créme brulée aromas, and loaded with cherry, mocha, anise, cinnamon and so much more on the palate. As it breathes, layers of chocolate and truffle rise to the top and join the abundant cherry flavors. This is the kind of wine that takes a few tries to even have a sip - the nose is so enticing, that you find yourself breathing it in, then lowering the glass while you digest the bouquet. Eventually you take a mouthful, and are even more blown away. Hobbs may be an egotistical, greedy, vainglorious winemaker, but he certainly knows how to make dynamite Pinot Noir!
