  • Dark purple in the glass. Not very aromatic, a little white pepper. Didn't get any fruit on the nose. On the palate, tannins dominate the attack with moderate acid and little fruit to speak of...a bit of raspberry. Balanced acid and tannins on the long finish. I have to say, I'm disappointed in the lack of rich fruit flavors, especially in comparison to last night's 1996 Eight Songs which featured rich dark fruit.

  • Dark purple in the glass, nose and palate of dark fruit - blackberry or plum. Mild tannins, soft and round. Much better on its own than with food - we brought the bottle to a local Italian restaurant and found the wine was a poor pairing - needed acidity to balance the meal. The wine is drinking well now and should go for several more years.
