Like the 2008 CIGLIUTI we had a week ago, this 2008 Barbaresco is tired and well past it drinking window. A shame. A 15 year old Barbaresco purchased upon release and stored at 55 degrees with optimum humidity, should not be this far advanced. Both these wineries have demonstrated they have good grapes and can make very good wines….. I might be inclined to attribute these wines’ fall from grace to the 2008 vintage, however I have recently had outstanding wines from other wineries in Barbaresco and Barolo, all of which were alive and outstanding.

Wow. This has been in my cellar for years and the cork was immaculate. No signs of excess aging. The nose was raspberry, black tea, anise, rose petal and tar. Bright raspberry with very strong acidity and strong tannins that were pleasant. Had this with chicken thigh fajitas and somehow the pairing worked well. I really enjoyed this and this is a compelling QPR but recognize if this wasn’t stored as well, this might be a very different bottle.

Purchased upon release in 2012 and stored in basement cellar.
Very balsamic nose that overshadows the faint pine forest and tar.
In the mouth, there is nice sour and red cherry fruit up front that is complimented by tar, spice, and faint raspberry fruit. Lots of dry tannin emerge on the finish that linger with cherry/raspberry fruit and a bit of balsamic.
This was better with food as the beef/prosciutto stuffed pasta in a sage butter sauce was able to balance the tannin in the wine.
Certainly in the peak drinking window as there are signs of the wine oxidizing in the faint balsamic notes. Decant recommended as it certainly got better with about 2 hours air. Drink now - 2023

Was 1st place in the Barolo/Barbaresco Tasting. It won by a large margin from the panel beating out a '96 Gaja, an '01 Pio Cesare, and an '07 Domenico. This was a big, but pleasant surprise. There was a nice mix of leather, cherry, anise, and nutmeg on the nose. Had a great acid lift on the front with loads of fruit throughout and a typical, soft tannin finish that was long and balanced.

Rustic, tannic and tasty. Cherry, some tar and earth. Plenty of acidity. This is in a good spot.
