  • Lemon yellow in color. Lime, ginger and floral nose. I agree with the idea of a combo of SB and Gwertz. Spicy in the mouth with medium + body and a tart medium finish.

  • pretty honey and flowers nose, reflected in the palate along with citrus and pear. would have liked this more with less flab and less alcohol warmth.

  • EYE: very pale light straw, with a bit of a green tinge. NOSE: white flowers - jasmine and elderflower (St. Germain Liqueur) with a bit of citrus zest notes in the background (lime). On the nose, reminds me a lot of a flowery Gewürz. PALATE: well-defined acidity and structure / edge of a California Sauv Blanc (without the vegetal edge of NZ SB) upfront...the medium-long finish brings the floral notes back in. OVERALL: Malvasia is new to me, but I found the juxtaposition in this wine very interesting. Drinks well on its own, would pair well with seafood or stand up to spicy Asian food for those seeking a Alsatian Riesling or Gewürz. Buying more tomorrow.

  • Deep yellow color with green highlights. Very expressive, perfumed and powerful nose with a huge array of aromas: heady tropical fruit notes, ripe citrus fruits, some pear, Gewürztramineresque flower shop complexity, a little Moscatel-ish hints reminiscent of dessert wines and a faint touch Riesling-ish petrol. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, but bursting with flavors of tropical fruits like apricots, mangos and passion fruits, supported by racy acidity, some grapey Muscat notes and almost Sauvignon Blanc-y notes of lemony citrus fruits and grassy greenness. Alcohol (13%) stays completely hidden. The finish is really long and intense with ripe, succulent tropical fruit flavors.

This is supposed to be Malvasia Bianca Lunga sourced from Calabria, Southern Italy, but all the Italian Malvasias I know have been a lot more neutral with rather low acidity (excluding the remarkable Malvasia Istrianas from Friuli), whereas this seems more like a blend of Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Muscat and Viognier! This is really an oddball, but whatever it really is, it is very balanced, refreshing and harmonious despite being super-expressive and positively over-the-top. Great and fun Cali white full of character!
