  • Surprisingly well-aged, old-school Cabernet Sauv. Deep ruby, with lots of sediment. Med (+) dried black cherry, black plum, baked blackberry, candied red cherry, vanilla, and baking spices. Dry, but fruit-forward, w/ med acid, med, smooth tannins and high, but well integrated, alcohol (14.5%). Full-bodied, with med (+) intensity and length and a very smooth and rounded finish. Still drinking well but unlikely to improve further as the structure is fully resolved.

  • My second bottle - see prior note and rating of 87 pts. Leaving a few points to the vagaries of my daily palate, this bottle was certainly better. The icky, chunky, dirty tannins got ingrained to something more chocolatey. Balance was still good. Still a bit disjointed initially, but day 2 was highly improved (vacu vin overnight). licorice and hard candy taste stayed (a signature, as with other years). I am feeling better about my other 4 bottles...

  • I bought this wine after having enjoyed the 2001. Wow, what a difference. This was remarkably disjointed and disappointing. The flavors changed almost by the minute upon opening, but never settled down to anything definitive. I tasted camphor, licorice, menthol, Cedar, and various other unpleasant barnyard tastes. The tannins were an unpleasant and grainy mess, which seemed to stick in my mouth forever. I was hoping that this would improve over the three hours that I consumed it, but it never got better. Call me if you would like a free bottle - someone has to drink it!
