To think that 1945 was a long time ago, and that this wine was based th from then and absolutely divine, complex and pristine… well, wow, yes please. We had this wine compared to the 1997 and 1977 of the same. The ‘45 of course dominated but the 1977 was shockingly interesting and clearly enjoyable. For those who do not have a the ‘45, buy the ‘77!!

Tasted non blind. Decanted for roughly 12 hours before serving.
Garnet to light brown in color, fairly clear looking. Nose of ash, burnt sugar, melted black licorice and cassis. Flavors of molasses, brown sugar, candied almonds and dried plums. Medium acidity, full bodied. A tad hot with the alcohol but not off-putting at all. Drink or hold.

2nd time I have been lucky enough to have had this wine. What a treat. Brown with some red tinge. A bit alcoholic on the nose. Some heat on the palate as well but not off putting. This bottle was more advanced than the last. It still had wonderful depth with caramel, chocolate, plum profiles. A very special treat once again.

A Celebration of Jose; 5/19/2022-5/21/2022 (Madison, WI): Clear cola-garnet color. 12 hours in the decanter tamed a bit of heat. This showed nice complexity of chocolate, caramel, prune and raspberry. Very smooth on the palate. Short finish. Overall lighter on fruit with less depth than some previous bottles.
