Tasted July 2018. Screw cap, light, bright colour and characteristic Cabernet nose. Copious fine sediment seemingly in perpetual suspension, next bottle will be stood upright for a week prior. Much improved day two after the tedious sediment had finally succumbed to gravity.

Cork disintegrated during extraction. Wine poured (via tea strainer, on account of the bark particles) surprisingly darkly into the decanter, evolving copious mulberry fruit and spirit aromas. Quite sweet, 100 octane Shiraz fruit, with enough tannin and acid to maintain a semblance of good order. No hint of jam! Just clean, vibrant, harmonious fortified deliciousness. No comparison with a Portuguese VP, of similar age, this is darker and fruitier but without the spice, and less delicate and complex. Certainly underscores the longevity of a good Aussie fortified, in fact this was rather better than I had expected. Last bottle of the '72. I have some 1971 which was rated higher. Difficult to imagine.

This is the best Hardy's 'VP' of the seventies, good examples are still drinking superbly.
