Black truffles, some dried red & black fruits with herbs some fresher cherries & possibly pepper. Showing its age. Palate- red & black fruits, with some dried fruits, softer but noticeable tannins, with herbs & oaky notes & lower acid. A nice wine but should be drunk quite soon. On the down side.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and high tannins. The structure still has some youth to it, but with refinement. There is a maturity to the feel with roasted herbs, red cherries, violets, balsamico, licorice, raspberries, and tar.
Overall: This is drinking beautifully right now. It is well balanced and perfumed while showing some of the more redder and riper fruits that the vintage yielded.

Older Barolos at Osteria Langhe (Chicago, IL): This was the heaviest of all the wines tonight, and I wasn't too much a fan of that. The fruit is incredibly ripe, and the nose shows a light touch of spice which doesn't seem to integrate very nicely with the other aromas. The palate is very dense with ripe fruit, and the tannins here are still very, very big. All in all, this seemed a little one-dimensional to me -- this is not a subtle wine at all.

This wine is drinking excellent right now. Decanted but drank immediately, and it's perfect drinking age. Beautiful nebbiolo velvety mouthfeel, the dark fruits were a bit on the sour side, but in a good way. Interestingly, the nose was quite muted. Overall wonderful.

Prunes, a touch of dried apricot, dark cherry, gamey funk on the long finish.

Barolos and Barbarescos with some age (Osteria Langhe, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is perfumed and balanced with red cherries, roasted herbs, violets, licorice, raspberries, some balsamico notes, tar, and leather. There is good depth with a ripeness to the nose.
