  • Age is shaping this one. It has a nose of truffle oil, sauted mushrooms with underlayers of lychee and lemon zest. On the palate, poached pear and damp earth on the attack. The mid-palate is reductive, almost antique. Then a crisp citric acid sets up a long, mineral finish. Great balance and structure. Elegant. But weird. Like modern dance. And buying two of these is sort of like buying a season at the theater. Sure, it's great and legitimate business expense, but you still wonder why you did it...

  • Intriguing scents of tarnished silver, English peas, melon with subtle yeast underneath. Then dry stones on the attack, Meyer lemon and bright orange-y acids in the ruck and a puckering, persistent finish with a weird Porcini visitor near the end. Well-integrated funkiness. And not funk for funk's sake. Drinks like an elegant champagne. An old friend with a new hair cut -- you don't notice the change, but something funny nags at you.
