Community Tasting Notes (1)

  • Tuesday, October 14, 2003 Not sure what is up with this, but it didn’t taste resolved. Heavy on the oak also. Hope this is not a purchase to regret.
Friday, January 02, 2004 no notes - used for party with Sheets, Tinsley, Smileys, K. Frank and Clarese Wilkerson
Thursday, April 01, 2004 Color of yellow gold. Tropical fruit, mineral and oak on the nose. Apple and pineapple fruit on the attack with mineral and lemon custard on the midpalate. A long, crisp finish with mineral and oak. The wine finishes with a distinct shot of acidity. This is a bigger wine than the 2000. One that I won’t revisit for at least another 6 months. 12.5% alc. With ravioli gratin.
Wednesday, May 26, 2004 This wine has way more oak than the 2000. Frankly, I wasn’t excited about pulling this but did so just to get it over. Yet it paired almost flawlessly with grilled chicken in a sun-dried tomato cream sauce. The smokiness of the sun-dried tomatoes was the perfect thing to tame/mask the oakiness of this wine. Similar in color to the ‘00, but it’s more vanilla and oak with none of the finesse of the ‘00. A pleasant surprise.
Tuesday, June 29, 2004 just like the others, but not nearly as much oak noticed as in the last bottles. maybe it was the pairing, maybe it was the cooler temperature of the bottle.
Thursday, August 26, 2004 Ugh, the oak on the nose of this thing was starting to get to me when a plate of vegetable fettuccine alfredo appeared and saved the day. Or at least the wine of the day. The earlier bottles of this has shown more oak than the ‘00 bottling but this, by itself was a bit much. Yet, with the food, it was delicious, proving once again that wine that needs food makes all the difference in the perception of the wine. The oak and vanilla fade the background being significant notes but not solo instruments in a quartet of lemon, mineral, vanilla and toast. Decent length on the finish. Still spry with clean acidity from start to finish.
Tuesday, September 21, 2004 This bottle continues the roller coaster experience with this wine. This vintage has found us liking it much less than the 2000, what with more oak and less fruit. But bottle variation has been somewhat extreme among these bottles being terrible, some tolerable and others titillating. Fortunately, this was the latter. The oak, while present, is not excessive. Good balance of fruit and secondary flavors, acid and tannin. 12.5% alc. With tortellini with tomato and cream sauce. An excellent match.
Thursday, December 02, 2004 not sure when I had this but around the 2nd is within shooing distance. Don’t recall much other than it passed without objection within the trade.
Monday, December 13, 2004 Bottle variation continues with this one being a Plain Jane: non-decrypt but nothing objectionable. Good mineral lemon/citrus on the nose and palate. Acidity seems to be dropping off. Fairly short finish. 12.5% alc. With brie and tomatoes over linguine.
Tuesday, January 04, 2005 more bottle variation. With spinach ravioli gratin.
Monday, February 28, 2005 mineral, apple and .... TCA. Drinkable, but not by much.
Thursday, March 03, 2005 missing. AWOL
