Decanted and consumed over two nights. No development. Rather dull colour. Rather tart with little in the way of real fruit or character. Seemed clean but maybe there is significant bottle variation. Disappointing.

We had this with an amazing rack of lamb (heritage Navajo Churro sheep--delicious) and grilled vegetables and potatoes. Kicking off our Spring with a clean grill. A friend of mine was pretty down on this wine. I liked it, but I see his point: It's good enough, it's pretty clearly Syrah, but it's not great Cote Rotie. There's more winemaking than terroir (not my favorite word but let's go with it): It's just not speaking Cote Rotie to me. Kind of slick and not quite as savory. It does have those great olive notes if you coax them out, and some roasted meat but you get the blackberries and the oak more. I have C-H at half this price that is similar, and would put DTR or Halcon Syrah quite a bit above this for less $.

I have always loved his wines and this is no exception. Clearly there is bottle variation based on other reviews, but this is the 5th bottle we have opened in the last two years with very consistent notes. My wife had the best descriptor I've ever heard - it made her think of a forest floor after a spring rain. What more can you add to that.

Balanced and very drinkable, but slightly disappointing for the price (£30 ep). Much better the next night, and upgraded to 91
