  • Wonderful deep and intense wine. Sweet tobacco, black fruit, mineral, and a touch of toasted oak.

  • This wine is coming around fast. Since my last review the change is very noticeable. With a good decanting and an hour or so of breathing time you will be rewarded with a big, rich, ripe cabernet with firm though inherently sweet tannins and a long smooth finish.

Nose shows dark fruit, lead with a hint of herbal & eucalyptus notes. There is plenty of reserved dark fruit; blackberry & currant with some mocha and Napa earthiness. It went down very easily, big rich and yet very soft though firm.

If you have any of the 2008 Core, it is now safe and very rewarding to drink, just make sure to decant and have just a little time for the wine to open. This is a real Buoncristiani premium cabernet at its best. Not for wimps yet clearly wine of the night by a long shot to all and we drank a lot of wine last night.

  • Open only if you have time, about 90 minutes for this wine to be enjoyable. Once it has time to breath this is a very nice, dark concentrated cabernet. If you don’t have time, right now this wine is tannic, tight, oaky and not ready to be enjoyed.

As big fans of the Buoncristiani style, which is big, rich, dark and very concentrated this wine lives up to its pedigree. It has a nice long finish with a bite at the end, oak too?

Nose shows dark fruit, lead and herbal notes of eucalyptus & mint. There is plenty of reserved fruit blackberry & currant. Overall this vintage of Core is a good wine that will evolve into a very nice wine.

It is clear that I am struggling with this, we like Buoncristini very much, each vintage seems to get better as the parts all seem to mesh much better into complete, complex drinkable wines. Evidence of that is their 2008 10th anniversary cabernet. It hold its own against anyone. Same for their very limited PS, the difference between 2006 & 2008 is striking. The 2008 is everything the 2006 is not.

Overall buy some Buoncristini and give it time.

  • I preferred this over the 07. Very approachable and enjoyable wine. Medium tannins are silky with layers of oak, dark chocolate, tanned leather and cassis. The 07 will be better in 7-10 years but this is very enjoyable now.
