Cabernet is not the first variety that comes to mind when you think of Yering Station, however the 2010 release is a timely reminder of the enjoyment that Yarra Valley Cabernet can bring.
Dark red, slightly lightly duller towards the rim, the nose has old leather, blackberry and earth alongside top notes of cedar. The palate showcases quality fruit with balanced blackberry and blackcurrant at the fore; grainy cedary tannins give structure on the mid to back palate and integrated oak adds spice to the leathery dark fruited finish.
The tannins make this a great food wine. Review Link - www.winereviewer.com.au (drink from 2014-2020)

Decanted for a couple of hours. Slightly volatile nose, showing plenty of plum, cherry, cassis and pencil shavings. Jammy on the attack, with loads of sweet cab fruit, but without seeming overripe. The oak is not intrusive but just adds the right amount of spiciness, the acidity is balanced, and the tannins are soft and ripe. Delicious.

Deep ruby-garnet core. Beautifully brooding nose of pepper, violet, French oak spice, plum and cassis. Medium to full-bodied. Expressive and primary on the attack (tart cherry, plum, asian spices, with a hint of cranberry showing when the tannins finally kick in). Beautifully balanced acidity and a medium amount of soft, velvety tannins. Loads of coffee and chocolate on the back end, with a refreshing hint of green on the finish. The length is long, and the alcohol (14%) is not noticeable. A very elegant and satisfying wine. While this seems to have an excellent structure for the long haul, it is so delicious now that the case for delayed gratification is hard to make.
