  • Color showing a little age; lively nose, floral and spices. Full fruited with secondary characteristics, nice texture as the tannins have abated. Elegant and balanced, as my tasting partner called it "seamless". As I snared the last several bottles of this at a very modest price, this will be one of my "experimental" wines as I see how it ages over years to come. At end of 1st quarter, my WOTY to date remains a modest '71 J Drouhin Beaune Greves, ethereal and stunningly so. So, I'm determined that these little experiments are well worth doing (provided you love old burgs and have the patience!)

  • In a Gevrey-Chambertin tasting throughout a decade+, this 1er cru showed really well. This was in prime drinking tonight with red and dark fruits, meatiness, mushroom, forest floor, wet leaves a touch of tobacco, anise and other cooking spices. The oak had a dark chocolate/coffeed finish, but wasn't dominating or too distracting done really well. This deep garnet/ruby with just a hint of bricking towards the dye had decent acid but was full and meaty. This would have paired well with Boeuf Borgogne. Very nice tonight WOTN.

  • Bright deep ruby red core, showing a thin orange rim. A very Gevrey nose of musky dried dark cherry fruits mixed with herbs, spices, leather, meat juices, earth, sous bois, tar, rhubarb, licorice and brown sugar and blood orange. Round and soft in the middle with plenty of warm, ripe fruit with a woodsy underbrush throughout and a bit of dried leaf. Minerally finish.

  • This one showed better tonight. More depth and richness, less acidic. However, due to the bottle variation I've been experiencing with this one, it's in the "drink up" mode for me.

  • Nose of cherries and earth. On the palate, this came off as a bit thin and acidic. This must be due to bottle variation. I've had many of these before and they showed much better in the past.

(Remoissenet Père et Fils Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers) The 99 was fresh, full and ripe - started with a hint of mustiness on the nose but that soon disappeared - good intensity and length. This really surprised me as other 99's I've had from the producer have been dull and unfocused. Still an astringent edge to decent teannins. Young, and whilst far from a great Cazetiers, it is verily a tasty beverage.
