I have never been much enamoured of Greek pinot noirs, of the ones I had tried, I found them to either suffer from VA or did not have any pinosity whatsoever. Maybe with some bottle age they might improve but otherwise I chose to ignore them in favour of more traditional PNs from more famous areas. Again I found it hard to believe that a Greek Pinot could get a medal at the Decanter Awards... Dark ruby. Surprised by the nose which screams pinosity (unusual in my experience with this winer's pinots up to now) dusty berries, cherries, earthy herbal background. Good mouthfeel, velvety medium bodied with balanced acidity and tannins. Surprisingly good and food friendly. I hope this is not a one off... 88

Pinots of The World, Le Petit Sommelier, Athens. Dark ruby and a nose that just screamed Alpha...I.e. no pinosity... Sweet black fruits and candied cherries together with oaky vanilla & sweet spice. Medium body, good fruit, medium tannins & acidity marred by slight heat. Nice but not immediately noticeable as a Pinot. With more time more Pinot like aromas appear around the edges. Have seen this with other Greek pinots too.

Pinot Noir from around the world (Petit Sommelier Restaurant): Intense ruby color. Sweet fruit nose like pommegranate and cranberry juice and cherry, sweet vanilla spice from use of oak gives a confected tone. Besides these aromas there is a greeness which characterises most of Alpha Estate's reds which makes this wine more an Alpha Estate wine than a Pinot. This greeness reminds of green pepper, poppy flowers and geranium. Palate is quite full for the variety with sweet candied fruit like strawberry and cherry and some darker flavours like licorice. Lacks varietal typicity but is a wine many people enjoy.

Dark ruby. Intense dark cherry, vanilla and spice on the nose. Not so typical p.n. at this stage. Medium-bodied, with ripe fruit, sweetness, silky tannins and balancing acidity. Med+, spicy aftertaste. A very well made red, but lacking p.n. character, at least at this early stage. Maybe after integrating the oak it will gain in "pinosity". That said, it is already enjoyable and fairly priced for a p.n.
