Opera Wine 2017 - 100 Great Producers (Verona, Italy): { OperaWine2017, Verona } Perhaps this was different in its youth, but today I find it a bit tiresome. There are shades of some lovely raw material here, but the wine isn't all that cohesive. In the interest of full disclosure, there are very few Cannonau from Sardegna that I enjoy - it generally comes down to a choice of pick dates, i.e. I find most are later than I'd prefer. No recommendation, would not purchase for my own cellar. Perhaps recent vintages have something more to offer.
A very unique wine. Tasted out of bottle for the first time at the Dettori winery near Sennori. Had never had an 18%-alcohol wine before. You can read about Franco's philosophy of natural wine-making on any specialized website or his own. On the sweeter side, with dark cherries and liquorice aromas. Definitely would pair with cheese, particularly strong ones. Bought a 2005 magnum of the same wine and it was either an off bottle or over the hill. Would not keep this for too long.

Deep garnet. Initially reticent nose...then an explosion of cherry, incense, garrigue, green peppercorns, cocoa. The mouth is astonishing, with cardamon, sweet spices, red fruits jam, kirsch, milk chocolate. Finish is simply infinite. Drink with very strong aged pecorino cheese or on its own.
